If you or a senior family member or loved one is considering options in assisted living in Anchorage, this will help you to understand what options are available, what some of the jargon means, and what Baxter Senior Living can offer you.
What’s New in Senior Housing?
Not so much has changed, but there are lots of improvements! Seniors, especially at Baxter Senior Living, have more options and personalization when it comes to care plans, housing and more! Today’s demographics are changing and with a more diverse population comes more options in housing, activities and care to accommodate everyone’s needs. Also expect better use of technology to keep things simple and streamlined.
Types of Senior Housing
There are different types of housing especially for seniors and they provide varying levels of care. These would include:
Single family home or individual apartment: This would mean living alone or with family with no assistance or medical care in home.
Age restricted senior apartment communities: These are apartment communities where only people over a certain age are allowed to live. No medical assistance is provided in this arrangement, just a community of retirees.
Retirement communities with minimal or limited services: Sometimes called Independent Living facilities, these communities bring together seniors to help them improve their social and recreational lives by living close to individuals they can relate to.
Full Service retirement communities: Also called Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC), these types of campuses provide care from independent living, through assisted living to skilled nursing. These types of arrangements allow a senior to age in place without repeated moves.
Assisted Living communities: Assisted living communities provide all of the educational, social and recreational benefits of an independent living facility and also provide assistance with ADLs and other tasks.
Adult foster or boarding homes: These are facilities that provide total person care for people who have a developmental disability.
Memory care communities: Memory care provides specialized care for patients who are suffering with dementia, Alziemer’s or memory loss.
Skilled nursing facilities (Nursing homes): These are facilities for someone who needs round the clock skilled nursing care.
Financial Arrangements
Leasing or rental agreement: In a lease or rental agreement, you pay for a property annually or monthly for as long as you live there or are using it, and for the duration of the contract.
Private payment: This is a payment made by a private person, not an agency, government or insurance company.
Long Term care insurance: Long term care insurance will cover the cost of long term care for the beneficiary (and sometimes their spouse).
